Valentine’s Day: Paper Fortune Cookies

I’ve had this idea filed forever, but I couldn’t think of a more perfect day than Valentine’s to create these paper fortune cookies.

Customize the fortunes for the recipient and you’ve got an easy-but-thoughtful homemade valentine. They’re also perfect wedding favors (use your wedding colors or patterns) or little bits of cuteness for Valentine’s Day party guests.

With Valentine’s Day falling on the first day of the Chinese New Year, I figured this would be a nice ‘double-whammy’ project. (Now, I understand that fortune cookies are a Chinese-American invention and not traditionally Chinese, but still – they’re iconic here in the States.)

Best of all – they’re sooo easy. I found Once Wed’s tutorial to be the most thorough and easy to follow. I used some text-weight paper from Michael’s that matched my color scheme and made about 4-inch circles (with a coaster as a template).

Since my plans entail a dinner party for two, I decided to write fortunes specific to my husband and give them as a gift… all tucked neatly into a clamp lid jar. I think I’ll just add a tag around the mouth of the jar, and then I’ll be all set!
