I wanted to make something simple, whimsical and fun this year for Valentine’s Day, so I decided to spin out my take on the timeless candy conversation hearts. I can’t say I’m a fan of eating them, but they do give me a warm and fuzzy dose of nostalgia.

I put together a little montage of pastel-colored hearts and added all the classic sayings – ‘be mine’, ‘kiss me’, ‘i love you’…

It’d be perfect as a folded note card, with a sweet little message to your valentine inside. A flat note with the message on the back would be cute, too.

But I also wanted to see how many other uses I could get out of the illustration. By cutting up all the little hearts, I found myself with twelve little heart-shaped opportunities. Conversation heart confetti, to hide inside your valentine’s card envelope for an added surprise? Cupcake toppers, for a little added love message to your sweetie?

How about heart-shaped bunting, to add a perfect little touch of whimsy to a yummy cake for your valentine(s)?

I’d love to see what you would use them for, so I wrapped up the design for you:
